About TYWYK
The Concept
Things You Wish You Knew was founded on the idea that there is no good place for people to give random advice. Tons of people have plenty to share and just no place to put their bits of information. Message boards are spread out and people only give advice when asked for it. TYWYK is asking you for advice - any advice you may have at all.
Origins
The idea stems from reading through lots of blog posts that were titled "Things I wish I knew.. XXXXXX". The XXXXXX were usually things like "when I was 16" or "before I bought a house". Not everyone has a blog though and blogs seemed to be too spread out and one cannot easily organize the content that falls under the realm of "small snippets of advice". When we employ a user registration system we hope we will get bloggers that can come to this site, share advice and also promote their blogs if they have more similar advice.
The Future
We've got a few ideas that you'll see pop up down the road:We'd like to make TYWYK content ownable by its posters and create a micro social network. We're not interseted in owning users and their content, so a home-brewed registration/authentication system is not what will happen. We'd like to employ an OpenID sort of approach. You'd still be able to post and browse the site anonymously of course.
Content ratings are good. Five stars, 1-10, up/down.. We're not sure which route is the best to go, but we'd like for the most appreciated advice to be recognized somehow. As soon as we reserach this more and hear more back from our users we will add this functionality
We'll be adding spam flaggability shortly to allow users to help moderate the site
We'll have a better way to browse categories soon
RSS feeds are in the works
