Poetry is often about precise expression through accuracy in word choice. Sometimes when you are stressed or angry, it helps to remember a situation where you felt calm or relaxed. Close your eyes and re-experience the peaceful event. Focus hard on remembering specifics. The act of remembering a particular event not only recalls your perceptions, it also recalls your emotions. The body's natural reaction to stress is very unhealthy. This method can help stop stress where it starts. Give yourself some time during the day to sit around and just think. Daydream, contemplate, meditate. Meditation doesn't have to mean sitting on the floor with your legs crossed and your back straight. It can be in an office chair with your feet propped up on a windowsill. Just take some time to think. Try someday doing things one at a time, slowly and deliberately. Try not to think about too much but exactly what you are doing at that moment. |
